Capital Access Alliance Releases New Ad Urging Congress To Stand Up For Consumers By Adding Much Needed, Additional Flights At Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport

More Competition Will Increase Affordable, Direct Access To The National Capital Region

Washington, D.C. – The Capital Access Alliance (CAA), a coalition of transportation and business leaders from Virginia and around the country seeking to make air travel to and from Washington, D.C. more accessible and affordable, released a new ad titled, “Stand Up for Consumers,” as part of a multi-state digital advertising campaign. The 30- and 15-second ads urge Congress to increase the number of flights at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) in the upcoming Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization bill, which would expand direct access and reduce Washington, D.C.’s highest-in-the-nation airfare.

“As Congress addresses the full FAA Reauthorization bill in early 2024, air travelers from around the country encourage them to prioritize consumers by modernizing the outdated perimeter rule at DCA,” said CAA spokesperson and Northern Virginia resident Brian Walsh.

“Limited consumer choice for travelers going to and from the national capital region forces them to pay the highest ticket prices in the nation and face longer travel times due to unnecessary connections. Increasing in- and beyond-perimeter flights at DCA will improve affordable access and better serve consumers.

“Opponents are intent on protecting one airline’s dominance of the Washington, D.C. market and continue to mislead stakeholders and consumers, but FAA data has confirmed that DCA can safely and effectively handle additional flights,” continued Walsh. “In addition to leading the region’s airports in on-time arrivals and departures early last year, DCA performed exceptionally over the holiday season in the face of record-setting numbers of travelers and despite false claims by opponents of more cost-effective access to the capital area. The data speaks for itself and we hope Congress will stand up for consumers this year,” concluded Walsh.
